Phoenix Mini-Summit
On Saturday,
January 31th, the Black Family Genealogy & History Society a mini-summit
from 9 AM to 2:30 PM at the Double Tree Guest Suites at 320 North 44th Street,
Phoenix, Arizona.
The topic of the mini-Summit was: Black Indians--Searching
for our indigenous and Cultural Roots.
The speaker for the morning session was Darnell
Alanda Morehand-Olufade, M.Ed., who discussed her research on the Choctaw
in Enid, Oklahoma, and the Shinnecock of Long Island, New York.
The afternoon
session featured Helen Cudjo-Woods, a direct descendant of the Seminole
Nation. She has been researching her maternal and paternal ancestors
among the Five Civilized Tribes in Florida and Oklahoma for ten years.
